September 2006

Been busy! I finally moved out of the Dean family basement and into my own apartment. I live on my own but I am far from lonely with all the people dropping in and out. The time to decorate is close at hand (ugh!)...

Special thanks to Scotty B for helping me move my bed as well as the dream team of Adrian, David and Danielle for helping me do pretty much everything else. Also instrumental were the Dean and Masters parentals. What little stuff they didn't give me, I bought at Ikea and set up with thanks to the dream team with extra props to Michael Jay Knoblauch aka Mr. Cabinet Builder.

PICTURES TAKEN AT MY NEW APARTMENT

The month ended with a trip to Calgary to support 'DOOMED' at the Calgary International Film Festival. Overall I am glad I went, but the festival seemed a bit disorganized and underwhelming. Highlights included seeing the Canadian Premiere of 'Comeback Season'the new film from one of my comedic idols, Bruce McCullough (of Kids in the Hall fame). He was in attendance at the screening and even did some Q & A afterwards. He is as funny in person as you would expect him to be.

BRUCE McCULLOUGH, RAY LIOTTA (FILMING 'COMEBACK SEASON')

'DOOMED' played during a midnight screening of short films. The reception was very good. There were about 100 people in attendance and I was surprised and happy about how much they laughed and seemed to enjoy it. I did not announce that I was in attendance (as some filmmakers did) so I was able to quietly eavesdrop and hear people's comments on the film. It was fun to see it with people who were not involved and watch them react. The other short films were all excellent. They have inspired me to work even harder!

Meanwhile, in the life of Alison Dean...Ali is finally settled in Guelph now and enjoying university life, something that is foreign to her. That is sarcasm, since we attend her university graduations about three times a year. She is enjoying herself but admits to missing us all back in little 'ol Regina. She does see fellow Saskatchewanians from time to time though! She spent a weekend in Toronto with Tat for her 21st birthday bash! Looks like fun!

Dave, not one to be left out, has sent me pictures from Japan for the monthly update. He is still alive and well, and quite possibly a ninja. Though he has been in Japan for the better part of the last 2 years, Dave has not forgotten his roots. Witness this in the pictures below. Notice how he wears farm themed clothing with pride. Dave, these pictures make me feel like you are audtioning to be a male model. And yes, I would hire you. Hire you with a vengeance.

SOME CLASSY PICS OF CLASSY DAVE WALLACE

The month ended with another familiar occurance...Shuya Show! The film is almost wrapped, having shot the final exterior scene on September 30th. And what a scene! Provar (the main character) infiltrates a gypsy camp. I was lucky enough to be a gypsy extra, and as you can tell we had quite a bit of fun. At least until Jason took off all his clothes and made everyone uncomfortable (a.k.a. aroused)...

So that's it! Special props to Jeff Hodgson for keeping it real in Calgary and to Gibran and Michelle Shah for buying their first house! Hope you had a good September, I know I did. Thanks again to everyone that helped me move out. I owe you all big (but what's new, right?)! Here comes October, get out your Hallowe'en masks!
